About Just Helping Out
Just Helping Out supports healthcare systems, universities, and community partners in transforming how they engage with people impacted by substance use. Through harm reduction–informed practice, provider education, and systems strategy, we strengthen patient trust, improve access to care, and advance overdose prevention. Training and consulting revenue helps sustain reduced-rate support for rural and underfunded community programs.
Why This Work
Healthcare systems, universities, and community organizations often want to help people impacted by substance use. Still, trust is fragile, engagement is inconsistent, and access to care remains out of reach for too many.
The problem isn’t a lack of effort. It’s that many systems were not built to respond to substance use with dignity, honesty, and human connection.
Just Helping Out exists to help close the gap through practical training, technical assistance, and real-world strategy rooted in lived experience.
And because rural and underfunded programs are too often left behind, this work is designed to bring support to the places where resources are limited but the need is urgent.
This work is not about perfection. It’s about meaningful, practical change.
A Clear Path Forward
Just Helping Out helps organizations:
1. Strengthen communication and language
2. Improve engagement with people impacted by substance use
3. Rebuild trust and expand access to care
Because when trust is strengthened, people are more likely to return.
And when people return, engagement improves, and outcomes follow.
